Competing against household names such as Coca Cola, Greggs and Nairn’s Oatcakes, Raynor Foods scooped no less than 5 of the night’s 25 awards, including the coveted overall award for the Food Manufacture Company of the Year.

Raynors were recognised for our pioneering work to reduce single use plastics and develop more environmentally friendly ways of food production. Rosemary Gardens is our award winning, vertical, hydroponic farm where we grow our own sprouts and salads. We are now fully self-sufficient for the production of Kale Cress, Sunflower shoots and Peashoots. In the future we will be expanding the range of ingredients we grow on-site. We are also going to be experimenting with growing new flavours and varieties.

Environmental Benefits

food manufacture award winner rosermary gardens

Growing our ingredients hydroponically is good for the environment. Ingredients are grown on-site so, at the point the ingredients are added to our products, they have absolutely no food miles. Neither is there any packaging waste as there would be if we had bought the ingredients in. The level of control we have over the growing conditions also means less food waste too. We can time growth cycles to the hour, and even stunt growth for periods to match demand which dramatically cuts down on wastage.

The Benefits of Hydroponics

  • Improves food safety

Easier to manage physical, chemical & microbiological risks

  • Improves food quality

Freshness, size, shape, colour, rigidity and flavor

  • Good for the environment

    Zero food miles, eliminates raw
    material packaging waste, food wastage

  • Efficiency

Cost neutral in the worst case, cost benefit in majority of cases

  • Opportunities for new products

New flavours, new products (living) and cross fertilization opportunities
